Star Trek - "Awesome" -- May 29, 2009
I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't a huge fan of the original Star Trek TV series with Shatner and Nimoy. However, I did watch it a lot growing up, and I didn't exactly hate it either. It was entertaining for its day. I became more hooked on Trek when The Next Generation came along. I guess when the special effects got better, and I got more into Science Fiction, I became more interested. The movies of the original cast didn't light me up, and to be honest, neither did the ones for the new crew either. The only one I thought was decent was First Contact. Yes, that was the one with the Borg. Deep Space Nine was okay, but I didn't see any episodes of the other spin-offs, with Hathaway or Bakula's crews.  Now, I saw the new Star Trek flick last weekend, where the original crew was recast with a young crew to show you how they all got together to run the Enterprise. I have to say, it's my favorite Star Trek movie to date. I thought the casting was excellent, the plot was solid, and it was just plain, overall, entertaining. There were some shockers, of course, which I won't divulge here, which I found rather interesting. Two of them dealt with Spock. For those of you who've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. Go see it in the theater, unless you have a big screen at home.
