Don't Make Your Readers Feel Dumb -- June 23, 2008

Newer authors have a tendency to overexplain their stories. The last thing you want to do is make your readers feel dumb. It doesn't take much to make a reader get the point of what you're trying to convey. Have faith they'll make the leap. If you're still not sure they'll "get it", then try explaining it through character dialogue or by some action, instead of just outright saying it. You're writing will be stronger for it.
