Don't Rush a Good Thing - June 13, 2008
In today's society everything seems to be about RIGHT NOW. Everyone falls into this trap. However, if you're smart, you shouldn't rush a project just because you're too impatient. Take a look at Rowling's last book, for instance. I like it in most respects, but the editing for it wasn't perfect by any means, and part of that Rowling has to accept blame for. I write slow compared to a lot of authors. It takes me anywhere from a 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours to create ONE PAGE in my series. That ends up adding to a lot of work in a year's time, and that doesn't even include all the countless edits. Are my books perfect? No way. You do the best you can and move on. Once you cut that cord and release your baby to the world, it's over, until a new edition comes out (if you're that lucky). Everything should come out in its own good time, without being rushed to meet a deadline. At least, anyway, deadlines should be flexible to allow for a better book. Let's face it: the better the book, the more satisfied the reader! 2008-06-13 13:33:39 GMT
