Have you ever noticed, and this is subtle, how many random chains are hanging around in the corners of movies with dark settings? What the heck? Is it to symbolize how we are chained by our fear of the monsters sneaking up on us? Check out Underworld as an example, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Or, just pay close attention any time you're watching any sci-fi or fantasy movie. For some reason, directors think they make great props.
